Circle UK Group is proud to be a member of TAPA EMEA, the leading supply chain security and resilience association for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Our membership reflects a practical commitment to protecting logistics operations, warehouse environments, high-value assets and the people who keep supply chains moving.

For our clients, this is more than an industry announcement. It strengthens our connection to an international community focused on reducing cargo crime, improving security standards and building more resilient supply chains. It also supports our risk-led approach to security, where people, technology, procedures and operational intelligence work together around the realities of each site.

What is TAPA EMEA?

TAPA EMEA is an industry association dedicated to supply chain security and resilience across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Its network brings together manufacturers, shippers, logistics service providers, security service providers, insurers, parking operators, law enforcement agencies and other supply chain stakeholders.

Circle UK Group Ltd is included on the official TAPA EMEA member list. Membership connects organisations that share a commitment to stronger security practices, better intelligence and coordinated action against the threats affecting goods in storage and transit.

TAPA is particularly relevant to organisations managing high-value, theft-attractive or time-critical goods. However, the underlying principles also matter to any business that depends on secure warehousing, reliable transport, controlled access and continuity of service.

Why TAPA EMEA membership matters to Circle UK Group

Supply chain security is not achieved by a single guard, camera, fence or alarm. It depends on the way controls work together across sites, vehicle movements, loading processes, custody transfers, parking locations, digital systems and incident response.

TAPA EMEA membership supports our ability to remain connected to current thinking across this wider environment. It gives our nominated representatives access to industry standards, training, cargo crime information, incident alerts and opportunities to exchange knowledge with other security and logistics professionals. The TAPA EMEA membership information describes access to security standards for facilities, trucking and secure parking, as well as intelligence on cargo losses and crime patterns.

For Circle UK Group, the value lies in converting that wider knowledge into proportionate, site-specific action. Our teams can use relevant intelligence and good practice to inform risk assessment, service design, officer instructions, supervision, escalation and continuous improvement.

What our TAPA EMEA membership means for clients

A stronger supply chain security perspective

Warehouse and logistics risks rarely stop at the perimeter. A vulnerability at a gate can affect vehicle control. A weak booking process can undermine loading-bay security. Poor key management can expose high-value areas. An unclear handover can create a gap in custody and evidence.

Our membership reinforces a whole-operation perspective. When assessing a site, we consider how people, goods, vehicles, information and third parties move through the environment. This helps clients identify the interfaces where security failures are most likely to occur.

Greater awareness of cargo crime patterns

Cargo crime changes by location, product, route, operating method and time. Criminal groups may exploit predictable collections, false documentation, insecure parking, insider knowledge, access-control weaknesses or limited out-of-hours supervision.

Industry intelligence helps security teams ask better questions. It can support decisions about which incidents are credible, where controls need additional attention and how risks may change as operations expand or routes are altered. Intelligence does not replace a site risk assessment, but it improves the evidence available to the people carrying one out.

Better alignment between site security and logistics operations

Security should protect the operation without creating unnecessary delay or confusion. Gate teams need clear authority and usable procedures. CCTV alerts need defined recipients. Drivers and contractors need consistent instructions. Security officers need to understand loading schedules, exception processes and the consequences of an incorrect release.

Our warehouse and logistics risk management guide explains how theft, unauthorised access, compliance gaps, safety incidents and business interruption can interact. TAPA EMEA membership strengthens the international industry context behind this integrated approach.

A continued focus on training and improvement

Security arrangements need to evolve as sites, threats and operating models change. Membership provides access to learning and professional exchange that can inform the ongoing development of our teams and services.

For clients, this supports a culture in which security is reviewed, tested and improved. Incidents, near misses, missed checks, access exceptions and operational changes should all create opportunities to reassess the controls in place.

Membership is not the same as certification

It is important to communicate the distinction clearly. Circle UK Group is a TAPA EMEA member. Membership does not automatically mean that every Circle UK Group service, client site or operating process is certified to a TAPA standard.

TAPA certification is a separate process that applies to a defined operation or scope and requires assessment against the relevant standard. Where a client is considering certification, the objectives, applicable requirements, responsibilities and evidence should be established through an appropriate programme.

Our membership gives us access to the association's professional network, resources and learning opportunities. We will use these responsibly to strengthen our knowledge and support clients with risk-led security and resilience decisions. We will not use membership as a substitute for evidence, assessment or formal certification.

Five areas logistics leaders should review

1. Facility access and perimeter control

Review how employees, drivers, contractors and visitors are verified. Check whether gates, fencing, lighting, CCTV and alarms support the access process, particularly during busy periods and outside normal office hours.

2. Vehicle and cargo custody

Map the journey from vehicle arrival to departure. Confirm who authorises entry, assigns bays, checks seals, verifies collections, controls keys and records exceptions. Pay particular attention to handovers between teams and organisations.

3. Security officer deployment

Officer duties should be based on the live risk and operating pattern. A generic post instruction can miss seasonal peaks, layout changes, high-value stock movements or new vulnerabilities. Our warehouse security risk assessment guide shows how site activity should shape guarding, patrols and response arrangements.

4. Incident response and escalation

Test what happens after suspicious activity, an alarm, a failed collection, a missing load, unauthorised access or loss of a critical security system. Teams should know who verifies the event, who makes decisions, when the police or other agencies should be contacted and how evidence will be preserved.

5. Business continuity and recovery

A security incident can stop loading, close an access point, damage equipment, affect staff or interrupt customer commitments. Identify the activities that must continue, the controls they depend on and the temporary measures that can be used safely while normal operations are restored.

A practical review checklist

Warehouse, distribution and transport leaders can use the following questions to test whether security arrangements remain suitable:

  • When was the last full security risk assessment completed?
  • What has changed since that assessment?
  • Which goods, processes or locations would create the greatest impact if compromised?
  • Where does custody pass between employees, contractors, carriers or customers?
  • How are unexpected drivers, vehicles, collections and schedule changes verified?
  • Are patrols and officer duties aligned with live operating patterns?
  • Who receives and acts on CCTV, access-control and alarm alerts?
  • Are incidents and near misses analysed for recurring causes?
  • Have out-of-hours escalation and continuity arrangements been tested?
  • Do corrective actions have owners, deadlines and verification criteria?

The answers should create a prioritised improvement plan. Effective security is not about adding controls without evidence. It is about understanding the most significant risks, selecting proportionate measures and confirming that they work in the real operating environment.
